WEST ALLIS, Wis. - Johnny Benson came from the pole position to score his third straight NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series win at The Milwaukee Mile as he took the checkered flag in the Camping World RV Sales 200.
Benson outran Matt Crafton to the finish line to pick-up his tenth career series victory and add to his point lead.
“Man, this is just way cool,” Benson said. “I can not believe we’ve won three in a row here.”
Rookie Landon Cassill finished third followed by last week's Michigan winner Erik Darnell and Todd Bodine.
Michael Annett bounced back from an early race spin to finish sixth with Ron Hornaday, Rick Crawford, Terry Cook and Mike Skinner completing the first ten finishers.
Crawford was leading the race but was penalized for speeding on pit road on lap 117 when the field was forced in because of rain.
“(Crawford) was awesome,” Benson said. “I hate that he had his deal on pit road there.”
The race was red flagged 33 laps later on lap 150 when lightning flashed throughout the sky forcing officials to evacuate the grandstand.
After about a 25 minute delay, the race resumed with Benson in the lead, where he stayed for the final 46 laps of the race.
“That lightning was unbelievable,” Benson said.
The race included a multi-truck accident near the midway point that started when Jack Sprague was tagged in the rear by Brendan Gaughan as the field raced through the fourth turn. Both trucks spun and before the incident was over a total of eight drivers were involved.
Benson now leads Bodine by 50 points and Crafton by 67.
The Craftsman Truck Series now heads to Memphis Motorsports Park next Saturday night.
