Clint Bowyer and his No. 07 Richard Childress Racing team are heading to New Hampshire for Sunday’s LENOX Industrial Tools 301 with high hopes of repeating the success they found last fall on the one-mile New England oval.
Bowyer kicked off last year’s “Chase” for the championship with his first career victory, dominating by leading 222 of 300 laps and surging into the Top Five among the championship contenders. He finished the year in third place and credits his success in New Hampshire as a key factor.
“That’s my new favorite track,” Bowyer said. “It’s where I got my first win and we were very good that weekend. A lot of things have changed since then; but we’ve worked hard, focused on this new car and I think everyone’s stepped up their game.”
Bowyer’s victory helped Chevrolet extend its Cup Series winning streak to four on “The Magic Mile.” The manufacturer has swept both of the track’s races in each of the last two years … with Kyle Busch, Kevin Harvick and Denny Hamlin contributing to the string of wins.
The last non-Chevy driver to reach New Hampshire’s Victory Lane was Ryan Newman (Dodge) in 2005.
Bowyer also will compete in the NASCAR Nationwide Series event on Saturday. He’s spent the last three months atop the driver standings and carries a 188-point lead over Brad Keselowski into the weekend.
